Lahore, Pakistan's second-largest city, is administered by the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation, which manages urban services across multiple sub-city districts (tehsils). Despite having an elected mayor and managing urban planning, infrastructure, and public services, the corporation's functions are limited compared to the province’s overarching jurisdiction over urban, strategic and resource planning.
Lahore shows improvement in air quality, with NO₂ levels reduced by 21% between 2000 and 2019. This progress positions the city above global and regional benchmarks for NO₂ concentrations. At the same time, the proportion of the population with access to improved, non-shared sanitation facilities increased from 64% in 2000 to 82% in 2022, reflecting significant strides in public health infrastructure.
